Today was the first day of school. I gave the students a “Would You Rather” bingo sheet. Students would circle one of the options.
Ocean or forest. Swimming or rock climbing. History or math. Which would you choose? They had twenty five spaces. Twenty five choices.
After they were finished, students stood up and participated in a structured language practice strategy called Give One Get One. Students would talk to their classmates to see if they were similar. If they had the same choice, they wrote down the partner’s name. Then they would find a new partner.
After all that meeting and greeting and getting to know their classmates, it was time to play BINGO. I had written each person’s name on a playing card. If the card was picked and they had written that person’s name on their card, they would draw a star. Five stars in a row meant BINGO!
This was a fun ice breaker. Tomorrow, we’re going to use it for some writing.
